The final two weekends of league fixtures provided Cessange spectators with five fine victories for the RCL Juniors U14s, U16s and U19s Squads.
The U19s secured promotion with a stylish 89-0 victory over Black Star Charlerois. The newly formed U19s team had to start in Division 4 in September but, after Christmas and season ending promotions, they can look forward to Division 2 Rugby next year. Jubilant Junior Head Coach Alex Van Zealand proclaimed “It was a team effort”.
The under 16s rounded off a dominant campaign in Division 2 defeating second place Liege 145-0 before dispatching a spirited Antwerp side 47-0. 17 wins from 17 matches and over 1200 points scored means the U16s deservedly return to division 1 next season. U16s coach Andre de Villiers said he was “satisfied with the season”.
Meanwhile the under 14s defeated ASUB 21-20 in a nail biting Division 1 encounter scoring 3 converted tries while the opponents scored 4 tries but missed all their conversions.
In the final match the U14s played some beautiful running rugby for the full 60 minutes beating La Hulpe 54-5. Team Manager Paolo Tarakdjan spoke emotionally after the game. “I am so appy for the boys, they have had a tough season playing all the top sides in Belgium week in week out. They won 4 of their last 5 home games and now go on Tour to Italy full of confidence. I am so very very ‘appy”.
Earlier in the day 150 Ecole de Rugby players from RCL, CSCE and Walferdange played in a friendly tournament. Players from 5 to 12 years old didn’t let the rain dampen their enthusiasm with some super tries and cracking tackles.
