The 2009 / 2010 season is an exciting one for RCL as we start life in the German Bundesliga , Division 2 South.
This year the league runs from late August to May with a full winter break. In our first season competing in the Bundesliga, our goal is to consolidate our position and aim to achieve promotion. This can be achieved, but to do so we must retain our simple gameplan and play to our strengths. (Hint – RCL sides aren’t Munster – we are better with the ball than without it!)
As the season is only 14 games long, we must remember these simple rules:
1. Develop a siege mentality when playing our home games. Teams do not come to Luxembourg expecting to win. Remaining unbeaten at home must be a priority that the entire squad becomes focused on.
2. Our away games will be treated as our very own Lions Tour – if we get through those 7 tough days, then the title will be ours. Those games require slightly more commitment, but 7 wins must again be our aspiration.
3. Enjoy your rugby. Enjoying rugby comes from winning games, and so we want to instill a winning mentality from the word go.
4. If you choose to play, then put in the effort required to get a victory. That means:
- Prepare properly
- Show the respect to your team-mates that being part of a rugby team involves
- Turn up fit and ready to play, and be in a condition to do so.
Not preparing properly is extremely disrespectful to the other guys in the squad.
People who are not prepared to put the team first would be better finding alternative entertainment on match days.
Training is essentially unit-skills based and will include a team-run to prepare for that weekend’s game.
New players are very welcome at all times, even if they have never played before. See you at training,
Jon
